You can use BeamIn without an account. If you do, this is the complete list of what exists about you, and where it lives. It is written from what the code actually does, not from what we would like to be able to say.
On our servers, while the room is open: the room code, the callsign you typed, and a session identifier that lets the media server route your audio and video. When the room closes, that session ends and the identifier stops referring to anything. Room chat is held for the life of the room and is not written to a database.
On our servers, kept longer: ordinary server logs — timestamps, IP address, and which room code was joined — which we keep so we can respond to abuse and to rate-limit people hammering the join endpoint. This is the one part of a guest session that outlives the room.
In your own browser: BeamIn keeps a number of values in this device's local storage. None of it is sent to us; clearing your browser data removes all of it. It covers your launch mode and callsign, your settings (language, translation, push-to-talk, audio levels, text and panel scaling), your layout (panel and sidebar widths, overlay positions), and, if you use servers and messages, locally cached items such as channel order, muted conversations, pinned messages, polls and room backgrounds. Signed-in accounts additionally store a session token so you stay logged in.
What we never have: we do not record or store room audio or video, and we have no email address, password or payment details for a guest, because you never gave us any.
If you turn on live translation, your speech is turned into text and only that text is sent to BeamIn to be translated — the room's audio is not. Where the speech-to-text step happens depends on how you are using BeamIn. In the BeamIn app it runs on your device. In a web browser it uses the browser's own speech service, and in Chrome and Edge that means your microphone audio is sent to Google to be transcribed. We are stating this plainly because "on-device" is only true of the app, and it would be easy to imply otherwise.
BeamIn is operated by BeamIn LLC, a Florida limited liability company, which is the controller of the personal data described in this policy. Contact details are at the end of this page.
Account information: email address and profile name when you create an account. Usage data: rooms joined, servers created, approximate session duration. Communications: chat messages in servers and channels are stored per session. Room chat is ephemeral and deleted when the room closes. Payment information is processed entirely by Stripe — BeamIn never sees or stores your card details.
We do not record or store voice or video from any room. We do not sell, share, or monetize user data in any form. Ever.
To provide and improve the BeamIn service, to process payments and manage your subscription, and to send transactional emails such as account confirmation and billing receipts.
Cloudflare handles voice and video transmission (peer-to-peer where possible, with Cloudflare relaying encrypted media when needed). Supabase stores account data and server/channel content. Stripe processes payments. Vercel hosts the application.
BeamIn relies on these providers, each of which processes some of your data on our behalf. All are bound by their own data-processing terms.
Supabase (United States) — account records, profiles, messages and uploaded files. Vercel (United States) — hosting; server logs include IP addresses. Cloudflare — real-time voice, video and screen share: connection set-up and relaying of encrypted media. Media is not recorded or stored. Stripe — subscription payments. Card details go directly to Stripe and never reach BeamIn.
Data is stored on servers in the United States. If you are in the UK, EU or another region with data-transfer rules, using BeamIn means your data is transferred there.
Account data is kept until you delete your account, then removed within 30 days. Server and channel messages are kept until you or a server owner deletes them. Room chat is deleted when the room closes. Server logs, including IP addresses, are kept for up to 30 days for security and abuse investigation. Payment records are retained for seven years, as tax law requires.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to: give you a copy of your data; correct anything inaccurate; delete your account and its data; export your data in a portable format; or stop certain processing. Email the address below and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the UK or EU you may also complain to your local data protection authority.
BeamIn is intended for people aged 13 and older. When you create an account you confirm that you are at least 13. We do not collect your date of birth — only that confirmation is stored. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
